Throughout 2020, funds were raised by our Employees after choosing Chico Meals on Wheels as their annual nonprofit recipient. The Golden Valley Bank Community Foundation matched the raised amount by $5,000, allowing us to donate a total of $10,000 to the nonprofit.
Eric Moxon, Board President of Chico Meals on Wheels had this to say about the donation:
"On behalf of all of us at Chico Meals on Wheels and the seniors we serve, we thank you for letting us be your charity of choice for 2020 and for your donation of $10,000.
For over 50 years, Chico Meals on Wheels has been delivering meals to homebound seniors, and with your generosity we can continue our work to maintain the well-being, independence, and dignity of seniors in Chico, Durham, Magalia, Paradise and surrounding areas.
Your donation makes a difference providing nutrition and, more importantly, a visit from a dedicated Meals on Wheels driver. Many times this individual is the only social contact the senior has on a daily basis.
Since the Camp Fire and now the Covid-19 Virus we have seen a large increase in the need for our services. In 2019, we delivered over 35,000 meals, a 21% increase over the previous year. Since March we have averaged over 4,000 meals per month. Last month we delivered 4,800 meals and the demand has continued to increase. We have added 188 new clients and delivered an extra 14,576 meals to seniors in need. Covid deliveries now account for almost half of all daily deliveries. We have added an additional delivery van, two routes and three extra drivers. These funds will be used to cover the cost of delivering more than 2,000 meals to our senior, low-income clients.
Thank you again for your generosity. We could not carry out our mission without you!"
Thank you Chico Meals on Wheels for all you do in our communities!
